Week 8 - MKTG 6101 - Class Overview

Image
As this class comes to an end, I wanted to take a minute to reflect on my experience throughout the past 8 weeks. My knowledge of marketing has grown exponentially and I have received a lot of clarity on misinformation I had gathered before this course. I found that the utilization of the books Ascend Your Start-Up , Surfing the Tsunami , and Guerrilla Marketing were great alternatives to the standard textbook. I particularly enjoyed Ascend Your Start-Up as I felt that it provided an interesting take on how to succeed when starting a business. I also felt that the information provided in this text could be used outside of the start-up world and in day to day personal life learning about perseverance. Surfing the Tsunami really drove home the importance of becoming adept to artificial intelligence (AI) and staying aware of the ever changing AI environment. Guerrilla Marketing provided so many useful marketing tool for start-ups and small businesses to utilize. This book really proved ...

Chapter 8 of Surfing the Tsunami drives home the point that whether we accept it or not artificial intelligence is here to stay. No matter what industry you work in you will be affected by AI in some way. Author Todd Kelsey provides a plethora of resources for individuals to learn about AI and keep up with the ever changing world of AI. Reading books and articles and researching are easy ways to try to learn and expand on your knowledge. A great place to start is re-reading this book. This book provides so much information and is a great foot-in-the-door to learning about AI and how you can adopt AI into your life.  I’m currently at the stage of adopting to AI. Between my personal and work life, I think I utilize AI quite often. From facial recognition on my phone to my cars ability to drive for me, I’m seeing that AI is everywhere. It is better to accept AI and integrate it into your everyday life than trying to fight it because it isn’t going anywhere.  References  Kel...

Week 8 - MKTG 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing Chapter 8

Chapter 8 of Guerrilla Marketing focuses on the importance of conducting research - both free & paid. Levinson’s main focus throughout the chapter was taking advantage of free research options such as questionnaires. The most accessible option is to utilize the internet. The internet houses so much information and as long as you know where to look for it, you’ll be able to tap into this “superlibrary” (Levinson, 2007, p. 89). Another option is to distribute a questionnaire to current customers or to individuals who are currently using the services you provide. With this method, you will also need to decide if you want your questionnaire to be lengthy or short. The longer the questionnaire, the more information you will be able to gather about your (potential) customers. With this information you will be able to better serve them and learn the proper audience to distribute future questionnaires. References Levinson , J. (2007). Week 7 - MKTG 6101 - Surfing the Tsunami Chapter 7

Image
Chapter 7 of Surfing the Tsunami contains a few interviews with influential individuals in the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Having the opportunity to interview these individuals and learn from them is incredible because who better to learn from than field experts. Some leaders in AI include Jim Spohrer, Irving Wladawsky-Berger, and Andrew Ng. Computer scientist, Jim Spohrer, has played a part in AI advancements such as common-sense reasoning and pattern recognition. Andrew Ng is the co-founder of Coursera and provides free online lectures for individuals who are interested in learning more about AI.   Many are concerned about the impact that the progression of AI will have on the job market. Irving Wladawsky-Berger believes new jobs will be created where old ones disappear. Although I think there will be a shift in the job market due to AI, I do not believe that it will be as drastic as people speculate. We will likely see more of a shift in job descriptions rather...

Chapter 7 of Ascend Your Start-Up poses many decisions one must make as they start their next climb. There will always be peaks and troughs but understanding how to persevere and make it through in a better position that you started is so important.    Yu, H. (2021). Ascend Your Start-Up: Conquer the 5 Disconnects to Accelerate Growth.  Decision #22: How will you inspire cultural collaboration? Cultural collaboration is a way of bringing different cultures together. Yu (2021) wrote “creating a culture of learning to encourage employees to help one another, cultivate gratitude, practice transparency, and understand how each employee can contribute to the overall company success inspires real distribution that leads to a new way of thinking and defines your start-up inside and out”. Encouraging positivity and gratitude is a great way to cultivate collaboration and allows for a strong team to be built. Decision #23: How has your technology connected humanity in a bigger and...

WIRED’s article The Future of the Web is Marketing Copy Generated by Algorithms  by Tom Simonite discusses the use of AI to write blog posts, article titles and descriptions, and so much more. As we inch further into the use of artificial intelligence, we see the true power of what AI can do. Autocorrect and text predictions are just the beginning of the advancements into AI. This article sheds light on the progression of AI and it’s ability to produce full articles that are typically fairly accurate. This advancement is incredible and should definitely get everyone excited for the future. It is important to be cautious of using this technology without reviewing since, as the article mentioned, occasionally explicit content can make its way into articles.  References Simonite, T. Week 7 - MKTG 6101 - Guerrilla Marketing Chapter 7

Image
Chapter 7 of Guerrilla Marketing focuses on the many ways of utilizing creativity for marketing rather than money. Many start-ups and small businesses find marketing challenging because they do not have a large budget. There are several ways for companies to spread word of their products and services at little to no monetary costs. One method is to work with an advertising agency. Ad agencies are able to help design, implement and track the success of advertisements. This is a great option for a company that is not sure where to start or wants to hand these duties off to someone else. Another option is to barter. Everyone wants something and people are willing to trade for the right return. You may want to reach out to your local television or radio station and see if they are willing to trade your products or services for air-time. If they aren’t interested in what you have to offer, do you know of someone who can provide what they want? Bartering is very common and is a very effecti...
